In accordance with the attached Officer Decision Record, the Director (Operations), in consultation with various parties stated in the Record, has made a decision to implement measures that will help relieve parking capacity issues within each Resident Parking Zone in Bury St Edmunds and help enforcement of illegal parking.
To exercise existing delegated authority, and following appropriate consultation, as set out in the attached Officer Decision Record, the decision has been taken to implement measures that will help relieve parking capacity issues within each Resident Parking Zone in Bury St Edmunds and help enforcement of illegal parking.
A parking review was undertaken by the Council in 2019/20 and agreed by Cabinet in February 2020. A recommendation within the review was to instigate a review of resident parking in Bury St Edmunds. A consultancy firm (2020 Consultants) was employed to review parking issues within the zones and consult with residents and key stakeholders. Following an initial exercise to understand the core issues and constraints to parking in the zones, a further consultation exercise was held to review interventions that would help address (and in some cases alleviate) the issues raised. Whilst some interventions will require Suffolk County Council (SCC) Highways to bring forward, those that can be managed by West Suffolk Council will be prioritised as a matter of urgency. Funds have been identified from within the Civil Parking Enforcement (CPE) reserve in this current financial year.
Do nothing and maintain the status quo; however, as a result of the consultation exercise undertaken it was considered that action needed to be taken.
