Most West Suffolk Council functions are the
responsibility of the Cabinet, which is made up of the Leader of
the Council (elected by the Council) and up to nine other members
chosen by the Leader. The members of
the Cabinet come from those with overall political control.
Cabinet members are often known as
‘portfolio holders’. This
is because each Cabinet member has a range of responsibilities,
which together make up a portfolio.
The ‘key decision’
threshold is £100,000. Decisions taken below the
£100,000 level are made by officers or portfolio holders, but
sometimes decisions are still referred to the Cabinet where it is
considered they have a significant impact on the local areas or
officers / portfolio holders do not wish to exercise their
delegation.
